Kora & Percussion
A effusive and accomplished percussionist, Sura Susso has been studying percussion since his early childhood in the family compound of griot musicians. His highly distinctive blend of African and Cuban percussion styles has been highly demanded from other bands. He has been bringing this flavour to the Seckou Keita Quintet (SKQ) since 2004 - touring worldwide & performing at festivals and events such as Montreal Jazz Festival, the Hay Festival & WOMAD International Music Festivals. Gracing the stage with renowned Malian artists Rokia Traore and Baaba Maal form part of the highlights of his career. As well as playing with SKQ, Sura has been invited to play with Askew & Avis, Deglulen, Jalex, Modou'NDiaye & Danto Aya.
He plays all percussive instruments on his debut album Sila Kang - Djembe, calabash, udu drum, sewruba, dun-dun, tama, congas, shakers and darbuka.
